Frequently Asked Questions
What does a therapist do?
As your therapist, my intention is to give you the opportunity to connect in a deeper way to yourself and your values. I see my role as co-collaborating with you to create a safe and therapeutic relationship where your experiences can be held and witnessed by someone who is holding you in the highest respect and the most compassion. My approach is from a polyvagal-informed, compassion-focused, and mindfulness-based perspective but we will work collaboratively to use the most effective modalities for you. Above all therapeutic modalities, I believe it’s the therapeutic relationship between client and therapist that can be the most healing experience.
What if I’m not sure where to start with therapy?
That’s OK! I can support you by listening for areas to explore. My aim is to allow you to develop a deeper understanding of yourself and your experiences. Therapy will look differently for everyone and above all, I invite you to show up just as you are.
What if I’m new to therapy or didn’t have a great past experience with it?
Starting therapy can be overwhelming and I commend you for your bravery in seeking therapy. Therapy takes many shapes. It’s a safe space to show up authentically, to express yourself, to reflect, and to grow. If you’re curious about therapy with me, reach out to alison@risecounsellingcollective.com!
