Hi, I’m Alison.
I’m so grateful that you’re here.
I’m truly honoured to hold the title of Counselling Therapist and to have the unique opportunity of growing & evolving alongside my clients. Each person I work with has a profound impact on me and I feel so privileged to walk alongside you on your journey.
I am a Registered Counselling Therapist (Candidate) using evidence-based and holistic therapeutic practices to facilitate healing for my clients. I am located on the ancestral land of Mi’kma’ki (Nova Scotia), the traditional territory of the Mi’kmaq. As many of the offerings within my services are referred to as “mindfulness” or “somatic” therapies, it must be noted that these practices are rooted in Indigenous wisdom and have been practiced by Indigenous cultures throughout the world for a millenia. We would not have these practices without the knowledge and wisdom we have learned from Indigenous peoples. As a settler living and offering services in Mi’kma’ki territory, my intention is to position myself as an ally in the process of, not only reconciliation, but true reverence of Indigenous peoples and culture.
My approach is from a client-centered, culturally-sensitive and socially-just lens, understanding that my clients are the experts of their own lives. From a trauma-informed perspective, I strive to create an atmosphere of safety and trust for clients, recognizing the impact our past experiences can have on our present-day functioning. In my work with individuals, I incorporate practices from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Compassion Focused Therapy, and Parts work, as well as other approaches. Most of my work is done in an integrative way, which means that we will work collaboratively to find the most effective modalities for you. In my work with children, I incorporate play therapy with a mindfulness and polyvagal-centered approach. This means that while we’re using play to connect and build trust with your child, mindfulness, emotional literacy, and nervous system regulation techniques will also be integral to our time together.
As a lover of research and learning, I am committed to ongoing professional development, staying informed on evidence-based therapeutic modalities to provide the highest quality care. However, when I’m not working, I can usually be found on a long walk around my neighbourhood, in the forest, or near the ocean. I also enjoy yoga, reading, writing, and spending time with family and friends.
